Where to from here?......
I just wanted to write some things that I'd remember and like to share with those of you that are interested. This is an old photo of me when I was a baby, I think like most of us who left our country of birth as babies, we don't carry alot of memories. This is all that I have of my childhood.
It's only a photo, but a photo with alot of memories. I look at it once in a while and it takes me back to where I was born. I only have minimal memories of my home land, but they are memories that will last a long time.
If you have already gone to my profile page, you will know that I was born in Phan Thiet. This is my father's home land, my mother's was Binh Ty. For those of you who like me had trouble locating there existant, it is located near Vung Tau, and I've been told famous for it's fish sauce.
I left Vietnam when I was about 4 years old. The story of my trip to Australia is rather long and sad so I am not going into depth. After escaping Vietnam, with nothing except for the clothes on our backs, my family became refugees in Malaysia, in Bi Dong to be exact. We were there for nearly 2 years before Australia gave us refugees status.
We were located to Adelaide, South Australia to the Migration Centre, at Pennington. My funniset memory while there was not knowing how to use the toilet....the flushing of the toilet was very fascinating to a 7 years old child who has never seen it before, I used to go to the toilet units just to flush the toilet to see the water mysterily disappear...
We moved around for a while after leaving the Migration Centre, and settling in the Nothern Suburbs for the past 13 years or so. I think I will continue to be here for awhile, before packing my bags to somewhere else, I am hoping to do some work overseas, so I can travel..my biggest dream is to travel the world....it's a big dream, but I think if you can dream it then you can make it come true.
I guess we all have dreams, whether it be travelling,to be rich, or to hope that one day Vietnam will be given back to the people. My other dream in life is to be in peace with my self, as long as I can do that, it doesn't matter what I am doing. I went to a number of schools before graduating from the University of South Australia, with a degree in Social Science.
